Babylon girls lax knocks off Hauppauge, 9-8

A year ago, Babylon girls varsity lacrosse had yet another successful season.

The Panthers made it through the tough Suffolk County Division II regular season and clinched a playoff berth.

Fast forward to this season, with perhaps their season hanging in the balance after back-to-back losses, Emma Ward netted three goals to lift Babylon over Hauppauge, 9-8, on Wed., April 20.

S.C. Leg. Tom Barraga (R-West Islip) recently met with two West Islip High School students Jessica Ansbach and Vincent Minicozzi, to discuss a project Anspach is involved with dealing with decreasing crime at the local level.

Anspach, a senior at West Islip High School is also enrolled in a public affairs course offered by Syracuse University.

Lindenhurst School board approves budget and okays sale of Bower School

The Lindenhurst School District unanimously voted to adopt its 2016-17 budget for $151.5 million—a year-to-year increase of $3 million, which will carry a tax levy increase of 1.02 percent.The increase is within the New York State cap.

The district is scheduled to receive $52.6 million in gross state aid, a 3.06 percent increase.

According to Mike Muchmore, the FYC treasurer, this year’s budget is the same as over the previous three years.

Babylon School District students performed exceptionally well at the 2016 Suffolk County Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) Regional Competition at Suffolk County Community College on Jan. 6.

First-place winners were Maggie Higgins in visual advertising, Michael Logan and Jack Corcoran in travel and tourism team decision making and Carley Daniele in broadcast advertising.
