Allen shared her training experiences from when she was nine years old through to her participation in the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, New York.

Charity, who is retiring this year, was honored at the third annual Teacher of Excellence Awards ceremony, hosted by Sen. Boyle on April 26 at the North Babylon Fire Department.

Oquenock students recycle half a ton of paper

West Islip’s Oquenock Elementary School displayed a commitment to the environment throughout the school year, kicking off with an assembly featuring Town of Islip recycling educator Danielle Wynn, who discussed the importance of waste reduction and recycling with the students, followed by the implementation of a schoolwide paper recycling program led by the students.

Since July 25, the Flock closed out the month by going 6-2. They continued that success by posting a 9-3 record in the first 12 games of the month. That 15-5 stretch improved their second half record to 21-11.

West Islip High School’s American Sign Language level four course recently hosted its eighth annual ASL Idol competition, organized by teacher Maria Kaminsky. More than 450 people were in attendance to watch 20 performances from 10 different schools across Long Island.

Students were tasked with creating a bridge to bring the gingerbread man safely home and away from the hungry fox.
