Megan Zhang of DPHS in All-State Music Conference
Deer Park High School flutist Megan Zhang, a senior, was recently chosen by the New York State School Music Association to participate in the annual All-State Music Conference in Rochester, New York in December. Zhang will perform as a member of the 2017 All-State Wind Ensemble, with Dr. Ricky Fleming from Buffalo State College as conductor.
David Miele signs national letter of intent
North Babylon High School student-athlete David Miele signed a national letter of intent to play lacrosse at Stony Brook University next fall. The district extends its congratulations to Miele and wishes him continued success at the collegiate level.

Deer Park’s Kasey Dorney to play lax for Wagner
Deer Park High School senior athlete Kasey Dorney signed a national letter of intent on Nov. 28 to play lacrosse for Wagner College in Staten Island, where she will major in nursing. A lacrosse midfielder, Dorney earned All-County status in soccer and All-County Honorable Mention in lacrosse during her Deer Park sports career.

•Aidan Smith, a computer science major from Massapequa Park, was a member of the 2017 SUNY men’s cross country team. He competed in five meets this fall and posted a best 5K time of 16:12.7 at the Hamilton College Short Course Invitational .
Lindenhurst’s tight end selected for US Army All-American Bowl
On Oct. 2, Lindenhurst High School varsity football tight end, Jeremy Ruckert was officially welcomed to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl team. Before an audience of family members, administrators and coaching staff, teammates and representatives from the U.S. Army, Staff Sgt. David Crayle presented Jeremy with a practice jersey.

West Islip High School’s junior varsity football team, guided by coaches Phil Kane and Frank Riviezzo, ended another successful season while remaining undefeated.

Bayview Elementary School participates in Scholastic Pajama Drive
Several students in Justin DeMaio’s classroom at West Islip’s Bayview Elementary School recently participated in Scholastic’s Pajama Drive. For each pair of pajamas donated to the initiative, Scholastic in turn donates books to children who have none, and gives the pajamas to local organizations that help people in need.

Sixty-three students from West Babylon Senior High School participated in the annual DECA regional competition at Suffolk County Community College on Jan. 3. A record 19 West Babylon students qualified for the New York State competition by placing in the top 10 in their respective events.
Babylon boys hoops dominate Port Jeff to extend winning streak
On Jan. 10, Babylon boys basketball’s season was in some serious trouble.
Following an 18-point loss to Center Moriches, the Panthers had lost two of their last three games after starting the season on an eight-game winning streak. They needed to get things back into the same groove that they had gotten so accustomed to in the first part of the season.
Muller, Brown lift North Bab girls hoops to win over Copiague
North Babylon was on a mission. A mission to overcome a, 57-53, loss at Copiague six days earlier.

Samantha Muller scored 19 points apiece to lift the Bulldogs to a 65-60 victory at home on Jan. 25 in Suffolk III. North Babylon improves their record to 12-3 and 9-2 in conference play.
North Babylon celebrates winter solstice
Fourth-grade students in Gina Petraglia’s class at Belmont Elementary School in the North Babylon School District celebrated the winter solstice by painting snowmen. Students listened to instructions about how to achieve particular color schemes, create designs and use brushstrokes, and then showcased their artistic creativity.
Deer Park welcomes new National Honor Society members
A total of 61 Deer Park High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society in a Dec. 11 ceremony at the school’s auditorium.
Three HHH robotics teams advance to LI championships
Three out of the five Half Hollow Hills FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics teams will advance to the Long Island championship as a result of winning their competitions during the tournament on Jan. 27 and 28 at Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park. The Long Island championship will be played on Sun., Feb. 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Lindenhurst HS theater troupe performs ‘Footloose’
On Jan. 12 and 13, the Lindenhurst High School Thespian Troupe performed its winter musical with a production of “Footloose” under the guest direction of Levittown teacher Paige Hardison.
