West Babylon Junior H.S. students create cards for Jacob Thompson

In recognition of World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, students in Eileen Moran’s English language arts class at West Babylon Junior High School worked together to help grant a wish. For his last Christmas wish, Jacob Thompson, a nine-year-old who has cancer, has been in the news asking for cards from all over the world.

In partnership with Long Island Cares, students throughout the Babylon Memorial Grade School were encouraged to assist hurricane victims throughout the United States by bringing in items such as school supplies, bottled water and small clothing items. Throughout the week-long drive, they gathered many donations which will be of great use to the families in need of these supplies.

West Islip High School’s varsity girls soccer team won the 2017 League IV championship, finishing with an outstanding 14-2-2 record for the season.

Seeded fourth, West Islip shut out Newfield, 1-0, in the first round of the Suffolk AA playoffs before falling to Half Hollow Hills in the quarterfinals.

Following the senior season of Lindenhurst’s do it all player, Ruckert was named the co-winner of the 58th Carl A. Hansen Award at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner at the Hyatt Regency Windwatch in Hauppauge on Dec. 4. Westhampton’s Dylan Laube was the other co-winner of the award.
