In recognition of World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, students in Eileen Moran’s English language arts class at West Babylon Junior High School worked together to help grant a wish. For his last Christmas wish, Jacob Thompson, a nine-year-old who has cancer, has been in the news asking for cards from all over the world.

Seven Babylon Junior-Senior High School seniors were recently joined by family, friends and district administration in the Babylon Junior-Senior High School Library to celebrate the continuation of their academic and athletic careers during a signing ceremony.
In partnership with Long Island Cares, students throughout the Babylon Memorial Grade School were encouraged to assist hurricane victims throughout the United States by bringing in items such as school supplies, bottled water and small clothing items. Throughout the week-long drive, they gathered many donations which will be of great use to the families in need of these supplies.
West Islip High School’s varsity girls soccer team won the 2017 League IV championship, finishing with an outstanding 14-2-2 record for the season.
Seeded fourth, West Islip shut out Newfield, 1-0, in the first round of the Suffolk AA playoffs before falling to Half Hollow Hills in the quarterfinals.

Following the senior season of Lindenhurst’s do it all player, Ruckert was named the co-winner of the 58th Carl A. Hansen Award at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association dinner at the Hyatt Regency Windwatch in Hauppauge on Dec. 4. Westhampton’s Dylan Laube was the other co-winner of the award.
Ten Babylon Junior-Senior High School student leaders recently attended the Compassion Without Borders Leadership Conference held at Islip High School, where they participated in workshops centered around community service and creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, tolerance and positivity in school.

The Dec. 11 Babylon School District Board of Education meeting recognized students throughout the district for their outstanding accomplishments.
West Islip High School’s varsity girls gymnastics team finished sixth in the Suffolk County team championships, held on Nov. 7 at Smithtown East High School. Additionally, five members of the team – Averie Alessi, Kimberly Arena, Emily McGrade, Delaney Rivera and Alyssa Woltmann – qualified for and competed in the Section XI individual county championships on Nov.
In conjunction with the Lindenhurst Fire Department, CVS Pharmacy, 20 East Montauk Hwy., Lindenhurst, is offering the influenza-flu-prevention vaccine.
As part of its commemoration of United Nations Day, the North Babylon High School Model UN Club recently toured the facilities of the peace-keeping international body. The UN, which protects human rights, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development and upholds international law, this year celebrated its 72nd anniversary. The students were led by adviser Diana Simulcik.

Sixth-graders from West Babylon Junior High did their part in spreading kindness on Nov. 28. As a class, the students took a trip to see the movie Wonder.
Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Councilwoman Jackie Gordon recently welcomed local veterans, elected officials, students and others to Town Hall for the annual Veterans’ Awareness Week kickoff program. At the event, seven students from Copiague, Lindenhurst and West Babylon were recognized for their victorious submissions to a veteran-themed essay contest.
Andrea Miller’s class at West Islip’s Beach Street Middle School recently worked on a rocket design project. The students used virtual reference sources to research the best designs for fins, nose cones and the rocket body sections, and then created a name for their company.
In observance of Veterans Day and as a testament to their respect and appreciation for the nation’s heroes, the marching band at Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District performed at the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s virtual enterprises class recently attended the Long Island Virtual Enterprise Summit at Long Island University Post campus alongside hundreds of other students from across Long Island in an effort to gain real-world business skills and present their ideas.
As an extension of their classroom lessons, students enrolled in Alyssa Choinski’s criminal justice classes at Babylon Junior Senior High School recently spoke with Sergeant Steven Horowitz of the Hempstead Police Department about his profession.
